Established in 1959, the Civic Development Corporation of Ashtabula County (CDC) has long been dedicated to improving the lives of local residents through unified fundraising efforts. We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 14th capital campaign, Campaign 2025, with a goal of raising $1.5 million. This ambitious initiative aims to support transformative projects that will enrich the lives of families, children, and the broader community while celebrating the spirit of Ashtabula County.
Campaign 2025 is designed to address four key areas: enhancing recreational opportunities, supporting arts and culture, and fostering a strong sense of community. The theme of this campaign, derived from a recent community assessment, is “Embrace.” The funds will be directed towards the following impactful projects:
- Village of Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department – $500,000
The centerpiece of Campaign 2025 is the development of an inclusive destination playground at the former Memorial Field. This state-of-the-art facility will feature innovative, accessible equipment and playhouses, reflecting Ashtabula County’s agricultural roots, industrial history, and lake lifestyle. The playground will provide a safe, engaging environment for both local families and visitors. - Ashtabula Arts Center – $400,000
An expansion and renovation of the Arts Center will enhance its capacity to support artistic creativity, education, and presentation. New flexible classrooms and rehearsal spaces will enable the center to broaden its programming. Exterior improvements, including new siding, will preserve the building’s unique artistic design while reducing maintenance. - Conneaut Port Authority – $114,000
This project will advance Lakefront development by constructing infrastructure to support the Conneaut Marina. The addition of a gravity-fed sanitary system will facilitate the expansion of the marina by adding 40 new slips for larger vessels. - Conneaut Township Park – $75,000
To meet the growing popularity of pickleball, the park will add four new courts. Recognized as the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., pickleball appeals to all ages and fitness levels, promoting health and wellness through enjoyable activity. - Geneva Little League – $20,000
Restoration of the Carraher Field Complex will address wear and tear, including new drainage, outfield dirt, and essential preparatory work. These improvements will provide a better environment for practices, games, and tournaments. - Ashtabula Area City Schools – $100,000
This project will create an outdoor classroom behind Erie Elementary School, offering a unique learning environment for students and the public. The new facility will include a fence, sidewalk, access path, and pavilion, enhancing educational opportunities in environmental science. - Park Place Non-Profit Center Co. – $75,000
Downtown Ashtabula’s redevelopment will include streetscape and façade improvements and a new pocket park at 4611-4617 Main Avenue. The park will feature family-focused programming, shade sails, picnic tables, and a space for local food trucks. - Ashtabula County YMCA – $55,000
Enhancements at the YMCA will include new indoor cycling bikes, big kids tricycles, wagons, a mini arcade basketball game, and a flexi projector. These additions will improve family engagement and interactive learning opportunities.
“Campaign 2025 represents a critical moment for our community,” said Dr. Lori Herpen, President of the CDC Board of Directors. “We are excited to support projects that will enhance recreational spaces and cultural experiences while strengthening our community bonds. This campaign reflects the collective spirit of Ashtabula County, and we encourage everyone to join us in this transformative effort.”
With a legacy of successful capital fundraising, the Civic Development Corporation is committed to investing in projects that will have a lasting impact on our community. We invite residents, foundations, businesses, and organizations to support Campaign 2025 and help us reach our $1.5 million goal. Together, we can create spaces and opportunities that celebrate the unique character of Ashtabula County and foster a vibrant, connected community.
