 We implement quality of life projects in all areas of the county, benefiting   all residents.

Ashtabula

 

The Ashtabula area has benefited from some of our larger projects and greatest investment, although these projects have benefited the entire County through improvements in education, culture, and health and wellness.

1959

YMCA ($740,000) –  -A long and careful study resulted in the allocation of $740,000 for the building of a new and combined YMCA-YWCA, which included an indoor swimming pool, a large gymnasium, an all-purpose room for social events, and club rooms for meetings and special interest groups.

 

Goodwill Industries ($35,000) 
– expansion and remodeling project that included a new addition.

1965

Ashtabula College Committee  ($103,780) 
– provided the required local match funds to construct the present Kent State University Ashtabula Campus.

Goodwill Industries ($50,000) 
– remodeled existing space for a vocational training center.

YMCA-YWCA ($165,000)  – removed the burden of debt on this facility due to construction and building modifications from the previous campaign.

 

 

  

1975

Ashtabula Arts Center ($167,000) 
– built music wing adjacent to the existing building for instrumental music and vocal instruction.

Ashtabula College Committee ($49,308) 
– funded several projects at KSUAC including the construction of an outdoor concert pavilion, purchase of library-learning resources equipment, and lighting and sound system enhancements to the gymnasium.

Family Services Agency ($35,000) 
– funded two halfway houses for the mental ill.

Goodwill Industries ($38,000) 
– funding of additional building space for the expansion of rehabilitation services.

Human Services Center ($268,430) 
– matching funds for the building of a comprehensive human services center

Residential Services Corporation ($32,500) 
– purchased a residential facility for mentally retarded men from Ashtabula County.

YMCA/YWCA ($65,000) 
– used to provide a women’s locker and shower room and an outdoor area for youth.

1985

Ashtabula Arts Center ($271,416) 
– constructed an addition to the existing facility to expand the theater.

Lake Area Recovery Center ($31,750) 
– completed Phase Two of a new residential treatment facility for women.

Council on Aging ($30,000) 
– additional contribution for the renovation of the Shea Civic Theater, donated by the Ashtabula Foundation and the CDC to the Council on Aging for use as a Senior Center.

Goodwill Industries ($45,000) 
– reduced a capital debt from a building addition that was part of the 1980 campaign.

Homesafe ($70,700) 
– renovated a donated house to serve as the new shelter.

Multi-Agency Computer System ($100,000) 
-the United Way received funds to purchase a multi-use computer system for CADA, Family Services, mental Health Clinic, Contact, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, 648 Board, and the United Way.

Red Cross ($23,000) 
– completed principal payments on the loan for the newly constructed Red Cross building, which was part of the 1980 campaign.

YMCA-YWCA ($50,750) 
– expanded, renovated, and equipped the women’s locker room.

Youth Development Center ($150,000) 
– provided matching funds for the development center at Donahoe Center, to house Juvenile Court, the Juvenile Detention Center, and youth rehabilitation services.

1995

Ashtabula County YMCA ($120,000) 
– funds used to assist with the Phase I development of an outdoor recreational space.

Ashtabula Arts Center ($200,000) 
– constructed an addition for dance and visual arts classes.

 Child and Family Development Center / Ashtabula County Community Action ($50,000) 
– provided the local match for the renovation of the former Sears Building on Main Ave in Ashtabula.

Homesafe ($57,500) 
– constructed office space and renovated current office space into private counseling and group rooms.

Lake Area Recovery Center ($40,000) 
– allocation used to purchase a computer system for the agency.

Education Projects: Science Laboratories ($470,000) 
– purchased networked computer stations and laboratory equipment for each public high school.

Economic Development Impact Fund ($200,000) 
– used to support the Growth Partnership in its coordination of countrywide efforts and resources to restore economic vitality to Ashtabula County.

2005

YMCA ($175,000) 
– Continued remodeling and upgrading of its facilities enable the Y to more effectively handle new programs and provide continued quality service for existing programs.

1970

Ashtabula Arts Center ($85,000) 
– construction of a new building for classrooms and office space

Ashtabula College Committee ($108,700) 
– purchased forty-seven acres of lands for the construction of KSUAC.

Community Service Center ($100,000) 
– initial funds for the purchase or remodeling of a shared building for human services. Site/building later identified in 1975 for the Human Services Center at Donahoe.

YMCA/YWCA ($105,000) 
– completed the basement facilities, expanded the parking lot, and installed a ventilation and air-conditioning system.

1980

Ashtabula Arts Center ($100,000) 
– $50,000 was allocated toward the building of offices, storage, and kitchen facilities. In addition, an allocation of $50,000 was used to move Straw Hat Theater from its Walnut Beach location to a site adjacent to the Arts Center building.

Ashtabula College Committee ($25,000) 
– allowed the college to enlarge and remodel a conference center.

Catholic Service League ($34,500) 
– allowed the agency to relocate and renovate a donated building on the Human Services site on CADA properties.

Children Services Board ($500,000) 
– applied to the construction of a Children’s Receiving Home site, which provided emergency residential care for neglected, dependent, or abused children.

Lake Area Recovery Center ($145,000) 
– engineering related to the site development and utility coordination and long-range planning, as well as an allocation for renovating and remodeling offices as a halfway house.

Family Services Agency ($6,000) 
– adults daycare program for people coming out of mental institutions.

Goodwill Industries ($25,085) – Goodwill Industries received two allocations, one to purchase equipment, the other for matching federal and state funds to complete the facility.

Homesafe ($6,902) 
– matching funds to purchase and renovate a home in Ashtabula to serve as a temporary shelter for battered persons.

Human Services Center ($66,954) 
– matching funds for paving and sewer lines.

Residential Services Corporation ($4,876) 
– provided matching funds for the purchase and renovation of a home for mentally retarded individuals.

Shea Civic Theater ($28,855) 
– replaced cable and hemp lines for the auditorium, and facilitated payment of roof repairs.

YMCA-YWCA ($242,535) 
– assisted in the overall funding of new construction and renovation, including handball/racquetball courts and the redesign of locker rooms.

1990

Ashtabula Arts Center ($20,000) 
– expanded parking capabilities at the center.

Ashtabula County Family YMCA ($250,000) 
– renovated the pool, building plumbing, front entrance, building security, sidewalk railings, pre-school facilities, handicapped restrooms/showers, air conditioning, and roof.

Ashtabula County Transportation System ($25,000) 
– required match for a block grant to purchase additional vehicles.

Community Action Agency ($20,000) 
– renovated office space at the agency.

Goodwill Industries ($25,000) 
– replaced landscaping equipment for Goodwill to use for its contract at the rest area at the I-90 inter-change.

Homesafe ($5,000) 
– renovated the basement children’s room to enhance the delivery of children’s services at the shelter.

Lake Area Recovery Center ($53,000) 
– used to complete construction of the women’s facility and addition of a day treatment room.

United Way ($26,000) 
– purchase of Project Flagship software.

Interactive Television Network ($500,000) 
– developed the Ashtabula County ITV Network, which employs distance learning technologies for all nine local high schools and KSU.

Economic Development Impact Fund ($200,000) – used for specific and measurable projects from the Growth Partnership’s strategic plan project list.

New Initiatives Fund ($250,000) 
– CDC established this fund as a way to meet the needs of worthwhile projects that arise in the interim period between campaigns. This fund is designated for strategic purposes, studies, planning and special projects.

2000

After School Discovery ($7,000) 
– the construction of permanent outdoor equipment, training, and portable equipment for Adventure Camp.

Ashtabula Arts Center ($95,400) 
– additional electrical capacity to the main building and Straw Hat Theater; installation of a comprehensive drainage and lighting for the parking lot.

Ashtabula County Family Y ($250,000) 
– major remodeling and plumbing upgrades of locker rooms and restrooms, improved accessibility into and within the building, and implementation Phase Two of the Outdoor Recreation Area.

Ashtabula Little League ($180,000) 
– comprehensive upgrade and improvement of the Little League ballpark at Cederquist Park. Among the improvements: drainage, backstops, fencing, additional fields, restroom facilities, and the construction of new bleachers.

2015

Walnut Beach ($150,000)
-Relocation of parking lot and natural sand dunes and primitive plantings. Project in conjunction with City of Ashtabula and The Nature Conservancy.

Indian Trails Extension ($200,000)
Included 1,800 feet of trail to reduce mud and provide a solid surface for those that bike, hike and bird. Trail features path to scenic waterfall and access to view 1876 Ashtabula Train Disaster site.

Historic Ashtabula Harbor ($50,000)
-Provided unified landscaping and improvement of parking area and pedestrian connection between Hulbert Ave., Morton Drive  and Bridge Street.

Downtown Ashtabula ($30,000)
-Ashtabula Downtown Development Association awarded funds to improve aesthetics of downtown including: self-watering planters and new decorative benches.

Ashtabula Arts Center ($85,000)
-Enhanced the indoor theater experience and gallery. Replacement of decking and dance floor, new projector, snow and fog machine and sound bar. Lighting to enhace side trees, floor instruments, and gallery atmosphere. Stacking chairs and wireless microphones were replaced.

YMCA ($150,000)
-Completely rennovated and upgraded all cardio equipment with high end machinery including: recumbent bikes, rowers, treadmills and elliptical machines.  Also contributed  to facility repair and fresh paint in cardio room.

Kent State University at Ashtabula  ($100,000)
-Contributed to campus beautification project including central driveway and entrance.

2010

Ashtabula County Metroparks ($275,000)
-North Shore Trail engineering and planning of continuation of Greenway Trail to Bridge Street. This will help make Bridge Street a destination location. Served as local match for state grant funds.

Historic Ashtabula Harbor ($44,000)
-Lights, historic plaques and bike racks.

YMCA ($100,000)
-Indoor Pool and Roof Repairs.

Ashtabula Arts Center ($84,000)
-Ashtabula Arts Center Straw Hat Theater Updates. Added accessiblity and concessions. Lighted walkways, concrete patio.

Ashtabula River ($20,000)
– Matching fund to complete dredging of southern portion of the Ashtabula Yacht Harbor. 10,000 cubic yards were removed from river bottom. Boat access to more docks and prevents ice buildup.

Indian Trails Park ($8,000)
-Interpetive signage. An infomation pavilion for tourists and residents is located at the head of the Indian Trails Park near Smolen Gulf Covered Bridge. Informational Panels installed to share history of the Ashtabula River, bridge and Ashtabula Township Park Commission along with a county map with points of interest marked.

Walnut Beach ($60,000)
-Revitilization match grant money. Project in conjuction with City of Ashtabula and The Nature Conservancy.

Indian Trails Park-Bailey Bridge Trails ($3,500)
-Funds to assist Ashtabula Township Park Commission prepare a Letter of Intent and cost estimate for reuse of historic Bailey Bridge to connect trails on either side of the Ashtabula River in Indian Trails Park.

Ashtabula County Community Services ($10,000)
-Harbor Planning. Update and consolidate three existing development plans. Identify and prioritize physical improvement projects targeted in plans and determine ranking of priority. Help Lift Bridge Community Association into a Main Street/Elm Street program that will assure all componets of a commercial neighborhood for future revitilization.
