Following nearly a decade of board leadership, Civic Development Corporation of Ashtabula County (CDC) Board of Directors member Stephen E. Varckette announced his resignation from the CDC Board in January 2023.

Varckette joined the board of directors in 2014 and was elected as president in 2016. He played a vital leadership role in both the execution and implementation of both of CDC’s 2015 and 2020 campaigns that raised more than $3 million combined for Ashtabula County projects. Varckette was also an integral part of the executive and finance committees of the organization during his term.

“Steve has been an exemplary leader and past president of CDC and his leadership has truly benefited the Ashtabula community.” said Lori DeCato, current CDC President. “His genuine and altruistic need to better our community, in addition to his business savviness, will definitely be missed. He was considered a friend by not only our board, but by all that have met him.”

Professionally, Varckette is the current President and Chief Executive Officer at Andover Bank. He has served in a leadership role for many different civic, charitable and economic development organizations across Ashtabula County and beyond. His philanthropic and civic contributions include: serving as a trustee of the Goodwill Foundation Board of Northeast Ohio and Northwestern Pennsylvania, board member of University Hospitals Geneva and Conneaut Medical Centers and served on the Ashtabula Area College Committee, Inc. Additionally, he was co-chairperson of the 2017 Ashtabula County Heart Walk.

“It has truly been an honor and privilege to work through CDC to improve the community I love so much,” said Varckette. “I will always look back at my service on the board, and specifically my time as board president, as one of the highlights of my professional career. My family looks forward to continuing our support of CDC and it’s mission over the coming years.”
